SIRCA-25L [virgin]

Name: SIRCA-25L [virgin]
Database: NASA Ames Thermal Protection Materials
Category: Silicon-Based Ablators
Composition: LI-2200 tile, infiltrated w/ silicone
Manufacturer: NASA Ames Research Center, Thermal Protection Materials and Systems Branch
Technical Readiness Level: 5
Last Modified: 2001-10-01

Description:

  • SIRCA-25L uses the Lockheed Insulation, LI-2200 fibrous ceramic substrate (0.353 g/cc density) and is impregnated with silicone to produced a final density of approximately 0.4 g/cc. SIRCA-25L can withstand higher heating rates and has a high mechanical strength compared to SIRCA-15F and SIRCA-14A, due to its high density pure silica substrate.
